At KS3, we assess for Oracy skills in ICE and use ICE lessons to encourage students to engage in discussion and debate.
We carry out confidence baseline assessments for Oracy at the start and end of Year 9 in Identity lessons.
We also work on 3 of the 4 Oracy strands throughout Year 9 and assess the students on these at a midpoint in Year 9. The focus for Year 9 in Terms 1 and 2 are Cognitive and Physical Aspects of Oracy. In Term 3 the focus shifts to Social and Emotional and Physical Aspects of Oracy.
We use Chromebooks to record interactions in pairs and encourage self and peer assessment.
