Ethics: Community and Respect, including Youth Mental Health, Peer and Social influences, Racism.
Year 7, Term 2:
Identity: Relationships, Different types of families, forced and arranged marriage, homophobia and sexism.
Culture: Christianity
Ethics: Health, including nutrition and keeping fit and healthy.
Year 7, Term 3:
Identity: Finances including budgeting, saving and spending and financial transactions.
Culture: Religion and Art
Ethics: Community including Self-Identity LGBTQ month.
Homework is not set for ICE. Instead we encourage pupils to use their oracy skills in and around the school and at home.
At KS3, we assess for Oracy skills in ICE and use ICE lessons to encourage students to engage in discussion and debate.
We carry out confidence baseline assessments for Oracy at the start and end of Year 7 in Identity lessons.
We also work on 2 of the 4 Oracy strands throughout Year 7 and assess the students on these at a midpoint in Year 7. The focus for Year 7 is Social and Emotional and Physical Aspects of Oracy.
We use Chromebooks to record interactions in pairs and encourage self and peer assessment.
Year 8, Term 1:
Identity: Health and Relationships and Respect, including Self esteem, body dysmorphia, Crime and the legal system.
Culture: Religion and the environment including Christianity and Hinduism, Animal Rights and the Creation Story.
Ethics: Respect and Health and Relationships including mental health and poverty.
Year 8, Term 2:
Identity: Life issues including divorce and separation, FGM, changes to the body during puberty.
Culture: Prejudice and Discrimination: Sexism, Homophobia, Racism, Islamophobia.
Ethics: Community and Health: Opportunities, Mindfullness and Stress and Anxiety.
Year 8, Term 3:
Identity: Challenging Stereotypes and Fmaily and Cultural Expectations.
Culture: How Prayer Began. Neolitic people, stonehenge and Native Americans.
Ethics: Respect and Community: Freedom of Speech, Strikes, Riots and Protests.
